Is John Carter Badass?

If you're like me, you saw the John Carter trailers and television spots and said "That's it?" Or, if you're like the majority of the moviegoing public you said "That looks like they're trying to be Avatar." To say that Disney dropped the ball in making people want to see the granddaddy of modern science fiction is an understatement. Having just come from a screening of John Carter (in 2D), I can only say shame on you Disney. Shame on you.


John Carter is many things: It is a western and a pulp adventure. It is science fiction and a romance. At times it feels like Stargate. Some times if feels like Raiders of the Lost Ark. Other times it feels like Star Wars. None of these things are a criticism. In fact, it's the only way I can describe what I was thinking when the lights came up since I was speechless. When I finally did compose myself, my exact words were:

I don't think I've seen a movie like that since Raiders... just wow.

Simply put, John Carter is the next true science fiction classic. And I will be seeing it many more times because it is absolutely Badass.
